CENTERFEST CANCELLATION ANNOUNCEMENT

CenterFest vs. Florence: Florence wins, but we’ll be back…!

Due to the impending dangerous weather expected this weekend from Hurricane Florence, and its impact to North Carolina, and the Durham area, we have made the difficult decision to cancel CenterFest Arts Festival 2018 which was scheduled for Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16.

Even though we are very disappointed, storm preparation and the safety of all our 1,500 artists, performers, sponsors, vendors, City support personnel, police, Durham Arts Council staff, board and volunteers, and the 30,000+ residents and visitors who always come to enjoy CenterFest are of the utmost importance.

We will not be rescheduling the festival, but rather putting our resources toward making this year’s Durham Art Walk Holiday Market – scheduled for November 17th and 18th – a standout arts and entertainment event in Durham’s fall calendar. Many of your favorite artists will appear at Durham Art Walk on November 17 and 18, so mark your calendars and plan to attend!

If you have questions or concerns please call DAC at (919) 560-2787.

Please stay safe.
Sincerely,
Durham Arts Council Board and Staff

CenterFest 2018, in the heart of Downtown Durham!

Since 1974, the Durham Arts Council has brought the Durham community together with CenterFest. As Durham’s signature arts festival, CenterFest showcases juried visual artists from near and far, and fills multiple stages with music, dance, and more from local performers. Serious art shoppers will be dazzled by world-class ceramics, paintings, jewelry, fiber art, woodwork, and everything in between – much of it from Durham and Triangle-based creators. Singers, dance troupes, choirs, bands, jugglers, magicians, and performers of every stripe will provide continuous entertainment throughout the weekend. Kids will have a blast at the Creative Kids Zone, food vendors will keep guests fueled for fun, and Durham’s inspiring nonprofit and government services sector will be on hand connecting with the community they serve. It all takes place in the heart of Durham’s historic downtown, a hub of local businesses and foodie culture that elevates the visitor experience!
