Come help us make the 2017 CenterFest Arts Festival a success this September 16th and 17th!

300+ volunteers are needed for the weekend.

CenterFest Volunteer Registration will open in spring 2017!

We use SignUp (formerly known as VolunteerSpot) to organize our CenterFest Volunteer Registration. Links to sign up for volunteer shifts/roles for Saturday and Sunder will be posted live in spring 2017.

Volunteers will also receive a free CenterFest 2017 t-shirt to thank them for their time and efforts.

Volunteer Shifts

You may volunteer for as many shifts as you like. Shifts range in time from 1.5 to 3.5 hours long. Visit the CenterFest Volunteer Registration Pages, when live, and find the shift that works for you!

Volunteer Training Sessions

After you sign up to be a CenterFest 2017 Volunteer, please plan to attend one of the the Volunteer Information sessions held at Durham Arts Council. Volunteer Information Sessions will be at held at Durham Arts Council in September, the week of CenterFest. Details TBA.

There are many volunteer positions, each requiring different skills and levels of commitment. Below is a list of many of the volunteer jobs available with brief descriptions. Check the volunteer registration links above for more information.

Block Captains

Must contact intern@durhamarts.org if interested. Experienced CenterFest volunteers who would like to oversee the smooth running of a region of the event. They are each given a designated area in which they are the main point person for artists, vendors, non-profits and the public if there are any problems or questions. All CenterFest Block Captain applicants will be screened before approval. We are in serious need of block captains for the entire weekend!

Kids Zone

Engage your hands and your heart with the free-spirited creativity of youngsters as they get busy with a variety of arts activities.

Gate Greeters

Welcome the public to the festival and encourage donations to support CenterFest and the arts. They will count how many people attend the festival with the help of a tally counter and hand out programs.

Stage Managers

CenterFest has 5 stages with performances throughout the weekend. The Stage Manager will answer the performers’ questions, remind the performers when their time is almost up, and be the liaison back to the DAC staff should any issues arise. Signing up for this position does not guarantee acceptance. All Stage Manager applicants will be screened before approval.

Stage MCs

Introduce the performers and keep audiences entertained in between sets. Signing up for this position does not guarantee acceptance. All MC applicants will be screened before approval.

Merit Judge Assistants

Assist the three CenterFest Merit Judges during the Saturday morning of CenterFest. Duties include holding items for judges and guiding judges around the festival. Saturday morning shifts only, and only one volunteer needed for each judge (three volunteers total).

Parking Lot Attendants

Man the entrances of the CenterFest parking lots and direct cars/traffic to appropriate lots based on parking passes.

Soda Sales

Serve the public as they take a break and enjoy a cool drink.

T-Shirt/Information Booth Helpers

Provide friendly assistance to people who need it and to give out literature on Durham Arts Council events, classes, etc. Sell CenterFest T-shirts and other items in the t-shirt booth.

Artist Services Assistant

Help the 140 visual artists find their spots, set-up booths, trouble shoot, booth-sit during much- needed breaks and help deliver meals.

Volunteer Booth Helpers

Help orchestrate the check-in, sign-out, and assignment for volunteers, last minute trouble-shooting of the 300 diverse volunteers that make CenterFest happen. We also have special positions for people who would like to help coordinate our volunteers on each day of the festival.

Arrival Assistants

Help direct artists and vendors as they arrive to set up on Saturday from 5:45am-9:45 am and Sunday 8:45-10:45. Note: Having people on Saturday is MUCH more important than for Sunday.

Performer Gate Attendants

Help check in and direct musical performers as they arrive at their special designated entry.
